Jonathon Schofield BDS DPDS MFGDP(UK) MSc (Dental Implantology) GDC No: 60471

Jonathon, the founder of The Dental Implant Clinic, graduated from Bristol University in 1986. He has over twenty years of experience in the field of Dental Implantology. His training has been in the UK, Switzerland and Germany. His particular interests are implants in the cosmetic zone – making implants imperceptible from natural teeth. Jonathan lectures throughout the UK and internationally on dental implant matters. He is a part-time Senior Lecturer at The University of Bristol and is Course Director for The University of Bristol MSc in Dental Implantology. He is also a Fellow of the International Team of Implantologists (ITI), which is a group of academics and clinicians who are dedicated to research and teaching in implantology.

Timothy Harris

Full biography

Tim graduated from Bristol University in 2002. He has extensive post-graduate training, including teaching, in oral surgery and implantology. Tim also works at the Bristol Dental Hospital as a clinical teacher and speciality dentist, performing oral surgery, and is a Dentist with Special Interest (DwSI) in Oral Surgery in Somerset. Trained to offer sedation, he enjoys treating nervous and anxious patients. Tim has completed, with distinction, an MSc in Dental Implantology at Bristol University and obtained his membership to the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2005. He is a study club director for the ITI and the Young Dentist Study Club, Bath, both designed to promote education and clinical excellence in dentistry. He is a member of the Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry (SAAD) and the British Association of Oral Surgeons. He is also an ITI Fellow.

Colin McGuirk

Full biography

Colin received his dental degree from Newcastle University and returned to the south west soon after. Colin has since performed extensive postgraduate training with dental experts from the UK, Europe and America. Colin has completed two masters degrees; a MSc in dental implantology and a MClinDent in fixed and removable prosthodontics and was awarded a distinction for both degrees. His particular interests are in the management of complex cases including tooth wear and the replacement of missing teeth. Colin’s expertise is in utilising minimally invasive, adhesive techniques to restore teeth without drilling more tooth away. Colin is involved in teaching dentists as part of MSc/MClinDent programmes and through independent courses across the UK.

Leoni Papageorgopoulou

Full biography

Leoni graduated from the Dental School of Athens, Greece in 2008. Since that time, Leoni has gained valuable experience in advanced dentistry, collaborating in 5 different dental practices in Greece. In 2010 she enrolled the MClinDent in Endodontology Masters programme at UCL, Eastman Dental Institute, which she completed in 2013. As part of her postgraduate training she conducted a research project in microbiology and disinfection of the root canal system, in relation to its complex anatomy. She is currently completing her Specialist Training for the Membership in Endodontics (MEndo). Leoni has always been dedicated in making root canal treatment a pleasant experience, via her gentle manner and her knowledge of safe strategies to save teeth.

Prof. Tony Ireland

Full biography

Tony graduated from Guys Dental Hospital in 1982 and returned there in 1985 to do his specialist training in orthodontics, qualifying as a specialist in 1988. A further 3 years of postgraduate orthodontic training as a Senior Registrar enabled him to become a Consultant in Orthodontics in 1992, when he came to Bath. In 2014 he was awarded a Chair from The University of Bristol. Tony teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate dental students in orthodontics and lectures widely. He is past Chairman of the Developments and Standards committee of the British Orthodontic Society and is the Principal UK expert in orthodontic materials on three International Standards Organisation committees. He is co-author of 2 orthodontic textbooks and has published over 50 articles on orthodontics and related dental subjects in national and international journals.

Elliott Ballantyne

Full biography

Elliott graduated with a degree in Dental Science from Trinity College Dublin in 2003. He is also a graduate of the Trinity College Dublin, with a degree in Physiology, and a Member of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Elliott has participated in several internationally recognised courses in Germany, Switzerland and France. Through his studies, Elliott has gained extensive knowledge and clinical experience in all aspects of implant dentistry but has a special interest in bone physiology including bone augmentation/grafting. He completed his MSc in Dental Implantology at the University of Bristol in 2013 with distinction. Elliott is registered with both the UK and Irish Dental Councils. He is a member of the faculty of dentistry in the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland, the International Team for Implantology and Irish Dental Association.

Robert Tyrrell

Full biography

Robert graduated with honours from the Dublin Dental School, Trinity College, Dublin in 2000. He stayed at the Dental School as a house officer in his first year post graduation and then spent five years working in community and general dental practice in Ireland. He moved to Bristol in 2006 to work as a senior house officer in oral and maxillofacial surgery and attained his membership to the Faculty of the Royal College of Surgeons in the same year. In 2007, he returned to university to study medicine, whilst also working part time as a speciality dentist in the Oral Surgery department at the Bristol Dental Hospital. He graduated from University of Bristol Medical School with honours in 2011 and began working as a hospital doctor. As a trainee surgeon, he worked in Cardiothoracics, ENT, General and Vascular surgery before returning to dental practice utilising his surgical training to pursue his interest in dental implantology and in aesthetic facial treatments. He is trained to treat anxious patients with intravenous sedation and also works a Dentist with Special Interest in Oral Surgery in Somerset. Currently, he is completing his dissertation for an MSc in Dental Implantology. He is a member of the International Team of Implantologists. Robert will be heading up our new Juventus Clinic for facial aesthetics.

Christian Day

Full biography

Christian Day is a Consultant Orthodontist at Bristol Dental Hospital. He is also an honorary clinical lecturer the University of Bristol. His consultant role involves the management of patients with complex malocclusions. This includes regular multidisciplinary clinics with OMFS, Oral Surgery, and Restorative Dentistry colleagues. The consultation and multidisciplinary clinics are attended by postgraduate students from many specialties and undergraduate students.
