Dr Elliott Ballantyne is a highly experienced implant dentist with over 20 years of clinical practice, having placed his first dental implant in 2005. Over the course of his career, he has placed many thousands of implants and has developed particular expertise in managing both routine and highly complex cases.

He graduated with a degree in Dental Science from Trinity College Dublin in 2003, where he also completed a degree in Physiology.

Dr Ballantyne has undertaken extensive postgraduate training internationally, attending advanced implant courses in Germany, Switzerland, America and France. Throughout his career, he has trained with some of the world’s leading implant clinicians, continually refining his surgical and restorative techniques. He completed a Master of Science (MSc) in Dental Implantology at the University of Bristol in 2013, graduating with distinction.

Since 2014, Dr Ballantyne has been actively involved in postgraduate implant education, teaching and mentoring hundreds of dentists in implant dentistry. He has shared the knowledge and clinical experience gained over his career through lectures, hands-on training and mentorship programmes. Until recently, he held the position of Honorary Lecturer at the University of Bristol, where he contributed to the teaching and development of implant dentists undertaking advanced postgraduate training. He now focuses his educational efforts on delivering implant training courses through The Dental Implant Clinic, helping clinicians develop practical skills and confidence in implant dentistry.

Through his studies and extensive clinical experience, he has developed a particular interest in bone physiology and advanced bone grafting techniques, which are often essential in rebuilding lost bone to allow successful implant placement.

In addition to placing implants, Dr Ballantyne has significant experience in managing complications arising from implants placed both in the UK and abroad. Patients are frequently referred to him for assessment and treatment of problems such as:

  • Infection around implants (peri-implantitis), which can lead to bone loss if untreated
  • Bone loss around implants, affecting implant stability
  • Loose or moving implants, which may indicate failure of integration
  • Discomfort or pain on biting, sometimes caused by bite imbalance or implant position
  • Broken screws or damaged implantcomponents
  • Poor implant positioning, making restoration or cleaning difficult
  • Gum recession around implants, affecting both appearance and long-term health
  • Sinus-related issues involving upper jaw implants
  • Aesthetic concerns, including unnatural crown appearance or gum contours

His experience in managing these issues allows him to provide clear, practical solutions, even in situations where treatment is highly complex or requires corrective procedures.

Dr Ballantyne is registered with the UK Dental Counciland is an active member of the International Team for Implantology. He remains committed to ongoing professional development and regularly attends continuing education programmes to stay at the forefront of implant dentistry.

He is known for his calm, thorough approach and his ability to guide patients through complex treatment in a clear and reassuring way, with a strong emphasis on long-term success, education and patient care.
