emergency-appointments

One of the most common things we hear from patients booking an emergency appointment is:

“I wasn’t sure whether to call. I thought I’d wait a few days and see if it settled down.”

It’s understandable. Life is busy, and many people hope a toothache, swelling, or sudden discomfort will simply disappear on its own.

Sometimes it does.

More often, however, dental pain is your mouth’s way of telling you that something needs attention.

A small issue can quickly become a bigger one. What starts as mild sensitivity might develop into a persistent toothache. A little swelling can become uncomfortable surprisingly quickly. And a chipped tooth that doesn’t seem urgent today can become painful tomorrow.

So, what should you look out for?

Here are a few signs that it’s worth picking up the phone and speaking to your dentist:

  • A toothache that isn’t improving or is keeping you awake at night
  • Swelling around a tooth, gum, jaw, or face
  • A broken, cracked, or knocked-out tooth
  • Bleeding that doesn’t stop
  • Signs of infection, such as swelling, pus, or a bad taste in your mouth
  • Pain, swelling, or movement around a dental implant

You don’t need to decide whether your problem is a “real” dental emergency before calling us. That’s our job.

Whether it’s a tooth that’s keeping you awake at night, swelling that wasn’t there yesterday, or a dental implant that doesn’t feel quite right, we’d much rather assess the situation early than see you struggling with a problem that’s become more complicated over time.

In many cases, prompt treatment can provide relief quickly and help prevent more extensive treatment later on.

If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and give us a call.

When it comes to dental emergencies, peace of mind is often just as important as treatment itself.
